Can I Get a Do-Over?
I don’t really care much for my new phone. It has some neat features, and is helpful for texting, but the helpfulness in texting comes at the expense of the other features that I regularly use. I called Verizon, and they said that not only could I swap it out with a different phone, but that they’ll call me back tonight when I’m home so that they can reactivate my old phone, process the order for the return of the new one, and go ahead and get another phone in the mail to me. Now that’s pretty cool, eh?
So now I have to pick a new phone again. Here are my options:
- Get one like my wife’s. The biggest benefit here is that I could have a charger at home and at the office. The downside is that the cuteness of the phone my distract from the cuteness of my face. We can’t have that.
- Get a different phone that has the same basic stuff that my old one did. There’s no point in getting a new phone in this case, now is there. I might as well be stuck in the stone ages with silly alphanumeric keys. Heck, I might even have to hunt for my food tonight or reinvent the wheel.
-
The is this one other option….Verizon is offering a free Blackberry. It has all the features that I need, and even a bunch that I don’t. In the event of an emergency, I could relay valuable information to my family….like stock prices or sports scores. The only minor issue is that there’s a slight fee increase for the services. And you you believe the nerve of my wife…she actually thinks that I don’t need these services. She’s so stuck on this whole “budget” concept that she can’t understand how much this device could enrich our relationship!
But, you know what, loyal readers. I think you should have a say in this decision. I feel so isolated and alone when I make this kind of choice. So, submit your vote. Here are the choices
Choice 1: Your wife is wrong. You need…nay, deserve, this type of device. This is a time for action. For change. For FREEDOM! Let us rise up and crush the oppressive tyranny that holds us down. Let us join in arms and receive e-mails that have been pushed to our devices!
Choice 2: I do not think your wife is wrong, but I do think that you are right. How in the world could I ever oppose such refined logic and deep-thinking? I even think that it might be anti-American to vote against you. This country doesn’t need “change” or “hope” or “catchphrase that McCain uses”. No, what this country needs is more people like you with the ability to utilize your phone as a GPS.
So there are your options, America…please vote wisely.

I’m not sure what I am voting for, so I vote Option #1 cause that seems like change I can believe in!

Being related to your wife by blood means I cannot go against her. I vote for the budget.

Lance,
Your vote has been noted.
Empress Katie,
Because your vote is not clearly defined within the parameters of “option 1″ or “option 2″, I must analyze your intent and declare that you really wanted option 2.
Looks like we have a tie game!

have you considered an iPhone? i have a blackberry for work, and it’s okay (mainly because i don’t have to pay for it), but given the choice i would pick the iPhone, hands down — cooler interface, full-featured browser, bigger screen, better form factor… did i mention it’s cooler? because clearly that is a qualification for a cell phone.

The iPhone certainly does rack-up points for “coolness” as well as “features.” The unfortunate part is that it’s not free and the required contract price tag is more than the wife’s plan and mine, combined. Although, I think you’ve hit on a valuable selling point for me…
“But Kelley, at least I didn’t get an iPhone!”

My dear, I believe we already had this discussion and closed it. Maybe I am wrong?

I’m putting you down as “option 1″.

Seeing as I just got the BlackBerry that you pictured (except mine is girlie pink), I vote for option 2…sorry Kelley. They don’t call it a CrackBerry for nothing.

Amendment to post:
I cannot read. I like the BlackBerry option. As much as it pains me to say this, I side with John…

Option #1: I am currently carrying the BB Curve, and it’s awesome! The trackball is far superior over the old trackwheel on the side. Out of curiosity, what phone did you have and which one did you get that you’re returning? I am a professional, you know?

I had the LG VX 8300. Just your standard flip phone. I traded that in for the LG EnV2. It certainly looked cool on the website. If only I knew someone at Verizon who could hack my account and give me lots of free things. Like a Verizon hat….or a Verizon T-shirt….or even something small like unlimited data, voice, text, and wireless capabilities. You know, something tiny that the company wouldn’t notice.

Oh gosh. I’ve wandered into the wrong room. I don’t even have a cell phone. Excuse me while I hide under this rock.

I’m with your wife not only because she’s my best friend……… but because “cute” and “talk” are the only real features needed in a cell phone.

I have a messed up simple flip phone. I vote for Option 3, which is give the Empress a nice, new phone just because.
